AQUILO III met an untimely end. During the launch, at ignition the rocket immediately exploded. The retainer bolts in the forward closure failed because the bolts were too short. This ultimately lead to a structural failure.

After this valuable experience, the engine was updated and a new design was implemented, called the snap-ring design.
